Where to brunch this weekend

Don’t worry. You really didn’t miss much last weekend in the brunch world, which may or may not have had something to do with the fact I was coincidentally on vacation. But this weekend, pretty much everyone in Chicago has decided to do brunch. Seriously, pick a place — any place. Sabor Saveur? Yep. Karyn’s on Green? You betcha.  Citizen Bar? Okay, you should get the point by now.

Easter is coming up too. If you celebrate Easter, I would be more concerned about attending church than brunch, but I guess it’s “a thing people do.” Luckily, since I do not celebrate Easter nor did I participate in Lent, I’ve been enjoying all of the pleasures of living life in excess — including a recent invite to David Burke’s Primehouse to finally try out those bento boxes I’ve been hearing about for so long.. I still haven’t tried out the Hangover Bento though, so perhaps another trip is in order.

Brunch picks this week:

Sabor Saveur
(2013 W. Division St., 773.235.7310)
This upscale Mexican restaurant is launching their brunch menu today with items that are kinda brunchy (poached eggs with figs, bacon and black truffle oil), kinda not (sea bass served with olives, tomato, capers, and chayote risotto), but definitely still much cheaper than dinnertime ($9-17)  to give you a nice feel for the restaurant at a lower price point.

Karyn’s on Green
(130 S. Green St, 312.226.6155)
Love pancakes, waffles, and biscuits, but hate being fat? Somehow Karyn Calabrese has discovered the secret behind turning traditionally fatty things in something that is both healthy and palatable. A mildly forgivable retribution for an entire weekend of obviously not detoxing.

Citizen Bar
(364 W. Erie St., 312.640.1156)
Keeping you up with your Sunday reading, Citizen Bar has just launched a new Sunday paper theme for their brunch, in which the menu is basically a Sunday paper. So, bring a copy of the Sunday paper to read with your menu (at least there’s the cartoon section on the menu!).
