Breakfast with Kelly: Tater tots and scrambled eggs

More user-submitted content from CBB pal, Kelly K. of Chicago, featuring a house-made bowl full of tater tots topped with scrambled eggs, green onions and shredded “Mexican” cheese, with a side of buttered up wheat toast. Much better than my breakfast of two donuts and stale coffee from Dunks.

Breakfast with Lou: Cereal

Heartfelt gratitude Lou Morton for being the first Chicago Brunch Blog audio/visual component, sharing an intimate morning of Peter Gabriel, unkempt hair and cereal from his apartment in Oakland, California. It’s almost like installation art, no?

2010 brunch madness

Twenty-ten: the future is now! As the sole brunchpert of Chicago Brunch Blog (and quite possibly the rest of the World Wide Web), and also as part of 2010 resolutions, it’s time to start fresh by doing what should have been done the last week of 2009: brunch predictions.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It’s the second week of January, so shoot me. Please let me take a moment to consult the crystal shot glass of revelations. I see something in the immediate future: apparently, I will be nursing yet another hangover at brunch this weekend! Looking forward to it!

Scraps of Wisdom: Cary Taylor

carytaylorIf you’re going to venture out just once into the Global Warming tundra, make it for brunch. And don’t let those leftovers go to waste either. It’s going to be a long night, trust me. In the ongoing quest to solve the Great Soggy Brunch Leftovers Debacle, Chicago Brunch Blog asked Cary Taylor of Chaise Lounge for some ideas on how to salvage scraps:

“As far as using leftover omelets, one thing you could do is make a stir fry or fried rice with mushroom, pepper and some other vegetables and fold in your leftover eggs and rice.

“One thing we do at Chaise Lounge with our huevos al infierno dish — which are eggs baked in a spicy tomato sauce — we take the leftover sauce, puree the hell out of it with tomato juice and add some cayenne peppers, carrots and peppers. Then we take tortilla scraps and soak them in as a thickener and turn it into tortilla soup.” — Cary Taylor

Where to brunch this weekend

In the event anyone noticed or cared, CBB was on hiatus due to a number of reasons. Well, two, really: recovering from a debilitating case the common head cold and from generally being a waste of space. Also, because I listen to a lot of Trina and Lil’ Kim, I am afflicted with Baddest Bitch Syndrome, which allows me to rationalize doing what I want, when I want. That, and I am a Pisces, so going to chalk it up to being a cosmic space case.

Yeah, so brunch. Sorry if I failed you. New Years Day is, in fact, the ultimate morning of hangover retribution and there was no guide to be had. Hopefully you managed. Luckily, there are still 357 more morning afters to suffer another painful hangover at brunch, including this weekend! So, let’s get to it.
