Where to brunch this weekend
After trudging through the ultimate week of atmospheric despair, we have finally made it to the weekend. Seriously, what is this? Seattle? Seems like everyone has come down with a case of the S.A.D.s.
We’re gonna make it after all, guys!
Cheer up, Debbie Downers. Packing on the pounds for winter is not only acceptable, but completely recommended. Well, at least that’s what I’ve convinced myself. Just in time, there is a brunch overload this weekend for a comforting mid-morning pick-me-up before calling it a day.
Green Rings Benefit
Admittedly not brunch-time, but definitely brunch-beneficial by proxy. The Co-Op Image will be hosting a benefit on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. to supporting the free youth art center in Humboldt Park. In addition to having a good time and doing something worthwhile, it is also a prime opportunity to pick up a bottle of hot sauce and use it in your Sunday morning scramble. More details here.
Bakin’ and Eggs
(3120 N. Lincoln Ave.; 773.525.7005)
If the painfully adorable name didn’t tip you off, Lakeview has a new brunch spot. Brought to you by the good folks at Lovely in Noble Square, savories look as promising as the sweets: a handful of frittatas, breakfast sandwiches and the ubiquitous bacon waffle. Brunch served Mon.-Sat. 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; Sun. 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Hearty
(3819 N. Broadway Ave.; 773.868.9866)
Hearty has recently revamped their menu to include seasonal gems like spiced pumpkin pancakes and fried chicken with housemade waffle topped with sweet yam butter and side of Cajun maple syrup. The effort is appreciated, boys, but we could easily live off a vat of the housemade rose petal butter. Brunch served Sun. 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Perennial
(1800 N. Lincoln Ave.; 312.981.7070)
Chef Ryan Poli has famous chilaquiles — that no one knows about. But this weekend, a wink and a nudge can get you in on the special. If everyone’s taste buds concur with Poli’s, these may make a regular appearance. Brunch served Sat. and Sun. 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.
