Ask a brunchpert

Hey guys, looks like vacation left someone with a case of the Mondays that kind of pushed into Tuesday — and, uh, Wednesday too. Anyway, as promised, a new feature is starting on Chicago Brunch Blog. Ask a brunchpert will provide brunch-solutions to some of life’s most challenging problems: birth control, laundry, General Hospital drama.

Our first set of questions comes from Katie Heath of Chicago, IL.

Birth control? (Pull out method?)
Sounds like Plan A turn into a regrettable evening at Plan B, a bar whose name conveniently reminds you to stop by the pharmacy the next morning. This is one of the lone cases in which a trip to Walgreens trumps brunch in the order of priorities. Seriously, I once saw this episode of “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant” where a woman dropped a baby one day despite the fact the couple “religiously practiced the rhythm method.” You don’t want to mess around with that, trust me. Do the intelligent thing: pick up some prophylactics, then walk across the street for brunch at Erwin, Ann Sather, or Meli Cafe.

How to get job?

Why do people pay $20 covers?
Yahoo! Answers produced no results. We may never know the answer to this.

What is polenta?

Delicious cornmeal mush and Italian comfort food akin to porridge. Royally screwed up by my dorm’s dining hall in college. Find polenta for brunch at FloBirchwood Kitchen and Vinci.

Bushwick or Hoboken?
Last time I checked, Katie, this website is called Chicago Brunch Blog. Helen Rosner gives a thumbs up to Hoboken, while Kyle Gorman firmly stands by his Bushwick crack den.
