Where to brunch this weekend

There is a lot of news on the radar this week: David Letterman’s extortion scandal, Michael Jackson’s never-ending autopsy finds and — being the most duh-worthy — Chicago losing the Olympic bid within the first round. Dramarama! It seems like most people didn’t really care whether or not we got the Olympics, we just wanted to win. Unfortunately, we lost. Way to go, Chicago. At least now we can see all of those great changes we’ve been talking about come into play, yeah? Aw.

It pains me to write these on Friday (Photo: Carly Fisher)

Brunch might not be on the top of news priorities right now, but it will definitely be a necessity after a weekend of drowning sorrows into a bottle or celebration, depending on how you look at it. Here is your weekly list of where to brunch.

Pup-A-Thon at C-View
The Dog Days of summer are definitely over, but C-View is letting you dine with your dog anyway for some pre-marathon brunch on Sunday from 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m.  Read more up on the C-View Pup-A-Thon here.

Dim Sum and then some
Technically, Dim Sum is brunch. But Lincoln Park sushi spot, Shine, is making a double positive with the launch of their American-style Dim Sum brunch this weekend.  Rise ‘n’ shine menu items include: Chinese onion pancakes with eggs and ham, and Teriyaki steak with eggs.  Brunch served Saturday and Sunday; 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Shine is located at 756 W. Webster Ave. in Lincoln Park. For more information, call 773.296.0101.

Get ready to hear “Baby, it’s cold outside” on heavy F.M. rotation
Fact: Everything that is deep-fried is delicious and counter productive to your Jenny Craig diet. Ain’t no thang. It’s time to pack on those pounds anyway in preparation of a very long engagement known as winter.  Never failing to tempt us into an early grave, The Publican’s Executive Chef Paul Kahan and Chef de Cuisine Brian Huston have revamped the menu for fall, including: deep-fried French toast topped with sweet strawberry preserves and a slice of foie gras mousse, paired with two sausage links and a ramekin of maple syrup. P.S. I love you. Brunch served on Sunday, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. The Publican is located at 837 W. Fulton Market. For more information, call 312.733.9555, or make a reservation online using Open Table.
