Where to brunch this weekend
Fun fact: I was almost love struck by the UPS truck while crossing the street the other day and therefore definitely in need of a killer brunch (I swear, sometimes I suffer from these kinds of puns).
Is it Saturday yet? (Photo: Carly Fisher)
On a side note, I’d like to send my condolences to Ashley and Michael, as they skip off into the land of blissful matrimony. This is justifiably relevant content, as they are having a brunch wedding this Sunday. Current plan is to eat the fuck out of everything.
Since none of you are invited to this shindig, check out these brunch spots for your own morning.

Gemini Bistro (Photo: Jamie Hartley)
Gemini Bistro
(2075 N. Lincoln Ave.; 773.525.2522)
After months of hype, Lincoln Park’s Gemini Bistro finally opened its doors last weekend and will be launching brunch on Saturday. Promising menu items include: Cape Cod lobster rolls, stuffed vanilla brioche French toast and duck confit nachos. Brunch served Sat. & Sun. 9:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
The Red Canary
(695 N. Milwaukee Ave.; 312.846.1473)
Vintage Victorian charm without the dainty white gloves, this West Loop restaurant’s brand new brunch menu is looking totally eggcellent. Currently jonesin’ on the banana Belgium waffles with house-made bourbon vanilla syrup; sausage and basil frittata with house-made jardinière; and lemon crepes with blueberry compote. Brunch served Sat. & Sun. 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Brunch at Hot Chocolate (Photo: Carly Fisher)
Hot Chocolate
(1747 N. Damen Ave.; 773.489.1747)
Oh, Mindy. You temptress of darkness and sin with melted chocolate that melts my heart. This brunch spot is often pleasantly stroller-free, which means you might sacrifice the screams of attention-deprived children from waspy Bucktown families for loud and eclectic choices of brunch music. Seriously, who was playing DJ? Blasting Joy Division is a little too much of a brunch buzz kill. Nonetheless, a solid menu of complex menu crafted to adult tastes is worth a try. Word from the wise: get the Mexican hot chocolate. Brunch served Sat. & Sun. 10:00 a.m-2:00 p.m.
Mundial Cocina Mestiza
(1640 W. 18th St.; 312.491.9908)
Don’t you love when restaurants provide an open invitation to sacrifice self-respect for an inexpensive opportunity to eat your heart out? Sure, there are all-you-can-eat buffet and drink specials, but unlimited chilaquiles is an offer you can’t refuse. For $10, chow down on red or green crispy tortilla totopos, pork machaca, and scrambled eggs. Brunch served Sat. & Sun. 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
