Where to brunch this weekend

Let’s take two seconds out of brunch for a little real talk here: I am on a trip to depression city about the season finale of True Blood. So many questions plague me. Can Lafayette be possessed AND sassy? When are Sookeh and Erik going to do it already? How much longer must I suffer with Evan Rachel Wood’s acting? And what is up with that egg? Will the sacrifice come at brunch? And if Maryann dies, does that mean no more awesome brunch spreads?

If you don’t follow True Blood, don’t hate. On the plus side, you’ll never have to see anything Gossip Girl related. Oh well. Now that I have nothing to consume my Sunday nights for a fucking year, I guess that means I have to start watching Lost.

I’m a real bitch in the morning without brunch too.

I digress: this weekend, there is more brunch to be had. Some old, some new, all delicious.

Pannekoeken Wicker Park
(2257 W. North Ave.)
“Go Dutch,” but have him pick up the check. Or maybe you’ll get into an adorable lovers quarrel about money in front of your server. The Wicker Park. The sister location features sweet and savory favorites from the Lincoln Square flagship like Apple and Ginger pancakes or Ham, Pineapple and Cheese pancakes. Brunch served Mon.-Fri. 7:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.; Sat.-Sun. 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Angels and Mariachis
(1721 W. Division St.; 773.227.7772)
In life, we must often sacrifice vanity and self-respect in the name of the holy dollar. At Angels and Mariachis’ Sombrero Sundays, receive 50% off your beverage tab with the purchase a sombrero from Angels & Mariachis ($20) or by wearing your own. You must wear a sombrero with a brim theoretically large enough to impale your date in order to get the deal, so don’t even think about passing off that hideous NASCAR cap. Additional specials include $20 refillable mimosas with purchase of an entrée.

Over Easy Cafe
(4943 N. Damen Ave.; 773.506.2605)
A rotating brunch menu that always manages to make me weak in the knees, the restaurant might be an easy choice, but settling on an entree is another story. This week’s menu features dark cherry peach cobbler French toast, blueberry crunch pancakes and a Bordeaux benedict with an apple-vidalia relish and grilled spiral-cut ham, topped with a dijon hollandaise sauce, served with red potato hash. ‘Nough said.
