Where to brunch this weekend
Is it really jacket weather already? Where the hell has summer been hiding? Given that it is very possible this might be last warm weekend, take advantage of these outdoor brunch spots:
High Noon at C-View
Bottom Lounge
Given that you probably left your keys or wallet at a show here the night before, might as well stop in for brunch. Bottom Lounge recently added a rooftop brunch that boasts excellent views of the warehouse district, so come with a pair of shades and your finest hangover. Brunch served Sat. and Sun., 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Bottom Lounge is located at 1375 W Lake St. in the Fulton Market neighborhood of Chicago. For more information, call 312.666.6775.
High Noon at C-View
Getting high at noon on Bloody Marys and a 29th floor view of the city is definitely a step up from the usual venue of Mom’s basement and reruns of Golden Girls. Brunch is served Sat. and Sun. 12:00-4:00 p.m. C-View is located at 166 E. Superior St., on the 29th floor of the Affinia Chicago hotel in River North. For more information, call 312.523.0923.
Magnolia Cafe
Don’t worry, Uptown. Haven’t forgotten about you. For Uptown outsiders, there is, in fact, more to this neighborhood than the 2 block stretch on Broadway. With just enough strolling distance from the Wilson red line stop to be categorized as do-able, Magnolia Cafe is well worth the trip for dishes like a wild mushroom omelet with herbed goat cheese and spinach, or grilled petit filet of beef with poached eggs served atop brioche with hollandaise. Sequestered far beyond the congestion of downtown tourism, Magnolia’s intimate 25-seat outdoor patio provides a sunny safe haven for those afflicted with the hangover blues. Brunch is served Sundays 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Magnolia is located at 1224 W. Wilson Ave. in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. For more information, call 773.728.8785.
Feast
Both the Gold Coast and Bucktown locations feature outdoor patios overlooking stores you most likely can’t afford. Eat away those recessionista blues with a fatty eggs benny. Brunch is served Sat. and Sun. 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at the 1616 N. Damen Ave. location in Bucktown; Sat. and Sun. 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at the 25 E. Delaware Pl. location in the Gold Coast.
Enoteca Roma
This is a place that understands the importance of a solid brunch recovery. Enoteca Roma’s “corrected coffees” seem to imply grounds bearing the strength of resurrected Roman soldiers and the subtle alcohol content as smooth as your average Casanova. There are also a variety of hot cakes and egg dishes to facilitate this process, best taken on the courtyard while wearing a pair of knock offs and living out a Fellini fantasy. Brunch is served Sat. and Sun. 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Enoteca Roma is located at 2144 W. Division St. in Wicker Park. For more information, call 773.772.7700
