Ah, Mother’s Day. The one day of the year that you’ll just have to suck up those criticisms about how you still haven’t accomplished anything with your life and “Why can’t you be more like your sister?” just like everyone else. This is her day, so do it with a smile!
And you best remember to buy your present. Don’t make it another obvious last minute stop off at Walgreens, because she knows. What better way to celebrate the woman who endured the nine months and pains of child rearing than a delightful Mother’s Day brunch at any one of these fine Chicago dining establishments?

For those of you who have been showing up to Duchamp for brunch for the past few months, sorry for the late notice, but apparently they have not been serving brunch since winter. But good news! Duchamp is set to start serving brunch again starting on Mother’s Day and continuing forth on Sundays from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. The restaurant will also be opening up their patio for some sweet summer time al fresco dining. Duchamp is located at 2118 N. Damen Ave. in Bucktown. For more information, call 773.235.6434, or visit duchamp-chicago.com.

Well, if you haven’t heard, former Top Chef contestant Radhika Desai has joined the Midwestern legion in the grand exodus of those who throw their hands up, say “Fuck this shit!” and move to New York in search of a better life or something.

312 Dining Diva reports that Ms. Gale Gand will be promoting her new book, Gale Gand’s Brunch! with book signing brunch at The Bristol on May 17 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. for $37. Though Gand will probably have her hands full with books instead of working the kitchen, executive chef Chris Pandel plans to serve up a taste of what’s in store for the book. If $37 sounds steep, consider that it’s probably one of the better try-before-you-buy experiences, and a lot easier than trying to accomplish the Alinea Book.

Apparently, there are a number of people who turn around as soon as they start seeing numbered streets. If you fall into that special category of people, you’ve probably been missing out on South Loop’s Yolk, as well as half of the city. Still can’t be bothered? Now you can be less inconvenienced as Yolk is set to open a second location in River North near the corner of Chicago and Wells, tentatively dated June 1. The space is still being renovated, but if you want to sneak a peek, the sign is already up at 741 N. Wells St.

Yes, there is brunch in Rogers Park. There are also more than five brunch restaurants in Uptown. And you know what? Both neighborhoods are now updated in the Restaurant Directory, where you can now search alphabetically in addition to neighborhood.

While getting a delicious falafel sandwich the other night, I happened to come across this juicy tidbit of information: the owners of Chickpea have secured a location in Ukrainian Village off of Damen near Augusta and are set to open a breakfast/lunch joint sometime soon. Let’s hope that the food is as good as that falafel sandwich, because that was seriously the bomb. And not to toot my own horn here or anything, but have to say that I’m prettttttty sure that this is the first report on that.

Hot off the press this week and on my current wish list is Gale Gand’s seventh cookbook, Gale Gand’s Brunch!, featuring a number of fancy schmancy recipes from Baked Eggs in Ham Cups and Almond Ciabatta French Toast to morning pastries like Ginger Scones with Peaches and Cream. The book supposedly “shares how to effortlessly enliven the basics,” so I’m curious about how “effortless,” we’re talking about here. Nonetheless, it’s probably the closest thing to brunch at Tru and therefore pretty damn good. List price is $27.50, but you can score as low as $16.99 on some websites.
